Tips & Tricks

Here's a bunch of things that I need to know and always forget:

Compute the MD5 or SHA-1 cryptographic hash values for a file

Download the File Checksum Integrity Verifier from Microsoft.
Run fciv -md5 -sha1 path\filename.ext

See the connections to your machine for a specific ip

netstat -n | findstr

Get to a console for an Azure website

Go to {website-name} then select 'Debug Console' and then 'CMD'
To get the hostname, just type hostname

Globally store git credentials

git config --global credential.helper store
The next time you run a git command it will ask for your username and password, and then will never do it again!

Pin cmder to the taskbar in windows 10

Right click on the taskbar icon
Right click on ConEmu and open the Properties.
Change the Target to <path to cmder>\Cmder.exe and Start in: to <path to cmder>.
Restart explorer.exe.

Start an admin powershell from powershell

start powershell -verb runas

Disable windows beep

Can't stand powershell beeping when you hit backspace too many times? Run these from an admin powershell and then restart your computer.
Disable: set-service beep -startuptype disabled
Enable: set-service beep -startuptype automatic
Note: this will disable the beep throughout all of Windows.
